Giveaway | December’s Facebook Fan (& blog!) giveaway

Monday, November 30th, 2009

In the past, we’ve done a Facebook-based giveaway where we would giveaway a product to one of our Facebook fans. We’re changing it up a bit since Facebook revised its rules for running promotions on fan pages.  No longer are we allowed to give something away for your fanship.  In fact, the rules clearly state that if we do run a promotion or giveaway through or fan page, we’ll need to do so through a 3rd-party aplication box or tab and that all contests must be approved by a Facebook account rep at least 7 days prior to the start date of such a promotion.

In order to comply with these rules, we’ve decided to announce the giveaways on our Facebook page, and just have you comment on our Giveaway blog post (which is this!)

So, to be eligible to win this month’s prize of the round washi necklace of your choice, just let us know by commenting on this post with a descriptive phrase that you think describes our jewelry.  (For example, one we use sometimes is ‘simple, yet modern’).

You can comment as many times as you’d like until December 31st at noon EST. Each comment counts as one entry, providing that your comments have a different descriptive phrase each time.

Good luck!  We’ll make the draw on New Year’s Eve, December 31st. :)

indiefixx

If you’ve ever wanted to know just a little more about us, Jen Wallace over at IndieFixx interviewed us yesterday and we’re honoured to be part of her Wednesday Indie Artist Fixx feature.  The interview has a never-before-seen photo of our CNC router in action, cutting a piece of mother of pearl inlay for one of our rings.  I’m sure that’s enough to drive you to go read the interview, right?

Mentions | Indie North calls us “Contemporary Beauty”

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

At Blend Creations, we always appreciate getting recognized as “indie designers”.  If you’re wondering what exactly it means to be an “indie designer”, Tara Gentile of ScoutieGirl has one of the most accurate definitions we’ve seen so far:

These are people who take great care & often make equally great sacrifices to be original and genuine in their work, while taking on the learning curve of MGMT 101 and MKTG 101. Not to mention, they’re learning code languages and graphic design out the wazoo to keep costs down on web management, PR and collateral materials. A lot of hats to wear, and my hat goes off to all of them for learning to juggle!

Luckily for us, we’re designers  by training (V is an industrial designer and E a graphic designer) so we’ve at least come to the “indie designer” label with some prior experience.  Even if we become a recognized brand world-wide (we can dream!), being “indie” will still be a label that we’ll be proud to bear.

That’s part of the reason that it’s nice to be recognized in our home country by IndieNorth – a Canadian Indie Business Collective as “Contemporary Beauty“:

Indie North features Blend Creations modern jewelry

Beth of IndieNorth featured four of our contemporary jewelry designs:

· White cloisonné torus stainless steel necklace (available in 16″ – 20″ lengths).  Our cloisonné necklaces are available in five other colours as well.

· “Red tulips” washi pendant.  We’ve also got a wide-range of other washi patterns available, and you can get round washi necklaces as well as long and small square pendants.

· “Flower lace” wood and stainless steel earrings.  Our most popular earrings!  And they were recently featured on Purple Pink and Orange (another indie design-centric blog).

· White mother of pearl stainless steel necklace (available in 16″ – 20″ lengths).  We call this particular necklace our “modern classic” because it goes so well with everything from a t-shirt and jeans, to a night-on-the-town dress.

Purple Pink and Orange, a great blog that supports indie designers like Blend Creations, did this little feature of a few of our modern jewelry pieces today:

If you’re looking for some great modern jewelry gift ideas, shown are our:

· Solid stainless steel Metal for Monsters pendant featuring the artwork, “Bunny Skull” by Brian Taylor ($16 from the purchase of any of our Metal for Monsters pendants goes to support the international children’s charity, UNICEF).  Makes an excellent gift for guys who love graphic illustration.

· Round “red streak” marbled paper stainless steel necklace available in 16″-20″ lengths – a good gift idea for your best friend.

· “Flower lace” earrings in orange-red wood; these earrings match our “flower lace” necklace.  Together, the set makes a lovely gift for the woman in your life who appreciates contemporary and simple looking jewelry that goes with everything!

Mentions | Young House Love thanks Blend Creations as one of their sponsors

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Around here, we consider blog reading as “market research” — isn’t it nice when surfing is actually considered ‘work’?

One of our favourite blogs is Young House Love written by Sherry & John Petersik who write about their DIY and interior design adventures as they fix up their 50s-era bungalow.  One of the reasons we’ve been reading with such zest is because we recently moved into a 50s-era bungalow ourselves and we’ve relied on some of John and Sherry’s how-to posts about painting fireplaces and basement floors.  Fun!

We love their blog so much, that we became one of their sponsors — we love that they feature some really cohesive interior designs and how they can do a range of interior design styles: from clean and modern, to comfy and beachy; all without breaking the bank.

Sherry & John posted a ‘thanks’ post to all their sponsors where they said this about us:

Blend Creations creates the most original and modern stainless steel jewelry that we’ve seen in a while (I adore the mother of pearl earrings).

We couldn’t be more thrilled to be a sponsor of their blog!
