A peek inside the fishbowl

Ottawa blogger, writer/photographer (triple threat anyone?), Andrea Tomkins writes the blog A peek inside the fishbowl, about her life here in our fabulous hometown of Ottawa, ON.  I was introduced to her by way of a mutual friend, and when I read her bio, I realized she was one of the contributors to our local ‘eating bible’, Cheap Eats Ottawa.

In any case, we’ve agreed to do a $100 gift certificate giveaway through her blog, so go enter — it’s open until Thursday December 10th.

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

From our friends at Cool Mom Picks we found out about Anissa Mayhew, a young mom and blogger who recently suffered a severe stroke

The story is both heart-breaking and compelling since Anissa started blogging as an outlet during the ordeal of dealing with her youngest daughter’s leukemia, and now she’s facing her own medical battle.

We’re participating on “Shop for Anissa” day on December 10th where a portion of our gross sales for that day will go towards the Hope for Anissa fund that will help with the Mayhew family’s medical bills.

So when you’re doing your online holiday shopping, consider checking out all the participating stores for the Shop for Anissa event — all store involved with be donating a portion of their sales for that day to the Hope for Anissa fund.

Gift idea | Secret Santa Surprise

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

We’ve just added a “Secret Santa Surprise” to our store — what’s inside the pretty box? Well, no one will know until they unwrap it!

But here’s a hint: it’s a small stainless steel pendant featuring one of our paper inlays. It could be what’s shown on the right or another washi, Nepalese, or Brazilian paper inlay that’s not even available for sale in store!

You can pick the color you’d like, or be completely surprised! This little gift is only $49 (a value of $88) and comes gift-wrapped and ready to give to a special someone (or keep for yourself!)
