Sneak peek | More geekery: #hashtag pendants

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

We’ve been tossing around ideas for more products that fall in line with our geek chic offerings and my friend and social media strategist Lara Wellman suggested doing a ‘hashtag’ necklace.

In case you’re wondering what a hashtag is, (it took many moons of being on Twitter before I realized what one was), the Twitter Fan Wiki says:

“Hashtags are a community-driven convention for adding additional context and metadata to your tweets. They’re like tags on Flickr, only added inline to your post. You create a hashtag simply by prefixing a word with a hash symbol: #hashtag.”

In any case, we sketched out some ideas, and weren’t really happy with any of them until we made this plastic prototype:

We’ve received enough feedback via Twitter that we’ll add it to our line-up within the next few months!

Sneak peek | New prototypes mean new products coming soon!

Monday, July 25th, 2011

About a month and a half ago, I showed a little work in progress which included a picture of an acrylic prototype:

Well, here’s an update in photo (and stainless steel) form:

The pendant is mirror-polished stainless steel, while the little maze marker is black ion-plated stainless steel.

We plan on offering this and another pendant design as pre-orders soon — we’ll update as soon as we have an idea of when you can order, when we expect them to be ready and of course, how much.

Update: The labyrinth pendant and the disc bottle openers are now available for pre-order!

Shop news | Canada Post shipping has resumed

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

We have been informed by Canada Post that they will be resuming operations and that Canadian consumers and businesses can expect to have post offices reopen on Tuesday (June 28th) and resume regular operations.

Any shipments that were stalled in the Canadian Postal system will be in transit starting tomorrow. As such, our flat-rate shipping method (Expedited Parcel to Canada/USA and Air Mail Small Packet International) will resume as normal with shipments going out with Canada Post starting this Tuesday.

Sneak peek | Work in progress: Labyrinth pendant

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

When we design new products, they always start with a sketch, then a production drawing and often a plastic prototype to get a good sense of what the piece will feel like physically.

We’re currently working on a Labyrinth pendant which would include a little maze marker that you can actually move. (Of course, the final product would be made of stainless steel and not plastic),

While the prototype isn’t nearly as robust as the final product would be, it’s already a lot of fun to play with!

Shop News | Canada Post Shut Down – Canada/US shipments to be shipped by FedEx Ground

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Without any advance warning, Canada Post has announced that it has suspended operations across the country.

Please be advised that this is particularly important for international shipments since we will NOT be able to ship out orders outside of Canada and the US until the disruption is resolved. (While courier shipping is available internationally, please be advised that this method usually costs $50+ to most countries.)

For our Canadian and American customers, we will automatically upgrade our $7 flat-rate shipping to be FedEx Ground (normally $15 Canada/$20 US) at no extra cost to you, and your order will arrive between 1-6 business days depending on your location.

Orders in the Ottawa, ON area will be delivered by local courier.

Our apologies for any inconvenience in these extraordinary circumstances.

Shop news | Updated: Canada Post strike & how it *won’t* affect your order

Monday, May 30th, 2011

Updated June 15: Please see this blog post.

Canada Post is experiencing a series of rotating strikes by the Canadian Union of Post Workers.

During this time, we will:

Deliver locally — If you order within the Ottawa, ON-area (Ottawa, Orleans, Barrhaven and Kanata), orders will be delivered twice weekly, which should not affect the time it would normally take to receive your order.

Continue to ship within Canada and to the US with Expedited Parcel — If your order is shipping within Canada or to the US using our $7 Flat-Rate method, we will still use this method, but there may be some delay depending on which Canadian city is affected by the strike.

“Xpresspost” (normally $15 in Canada and $20 to the US and 2-3 business days of ship time), will be shipped by FedEx Ground and may take up to 6 business days to arrive depending on your location.

“Courier shipments” ($35 to Canada/US with 1-2 business days of ship time) are unaffected by the strike.

For international orders — Your order will still ship by Canada Post Air Mail Small Packet, and may experience some delay depending on which Canadian city is affected by the rotating strike.

Got questions? You can contact us for specific information about shipping to your location.

Sneak peek | Connections get personalized

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Mother’s Day is fast approaching — and we’re working on adding the option of further personalizing our modern family necklaces by having the option of engraving names on each Connection necklace ring (on both sides).

Here’s the first tiny personalized ring:

Our connection necklaces are already a great way of keeping your family close to your heart, and inscribing their names just makes it that much sweeter.

Update: The option is now available in the store:

Shop news | Written in the stars: new zodiac pendants

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

We’ve just added a couple of new high-polished stainless steel tab pendants — they join our QR barcode pendant and our Twitter handle pendant.

Both new pendants are stellar (yes, pun intended!) as they are zodiac pendants – one for traditional astrology, and the other one based on the Chinese Zodiac.

Shop news & giveaway | New: QR code and Twitter handle pendants

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

We’ve just added two new high-polished stainless steel tab pendants to our collection: a new Twitter handle pendant and a QR code pendant.

Social media geeks: rejoice! We’ve added another addition to our Twitter handle jewelry, a pendant that is graphical and simple in design and of course, personalized with your Twitter handle. :)

Perfect for the guy or girl you know who loves’em some Twitter!

Our QR code pendant is available with pre-set QR codes (“I love you”, “I <3 geeks” and “Barcodes FTW”), or you can choose a custom QR code, where you just give us the message, and we’ll generate a QR code for you. They’re great for secret messages, or allowing someone to quickly link to your website with a scan of your pendant using a code-reading phone app.

Both are perfect gifts for that high-tech loving geek in your life!

We’re giving away a QR code pendant this month!

To enter this giveaway, comment on this blog post with your name and tell us:

What message or URL would you encode if you won the QR code pendant?

Please, only one comment/entry per person. We’ll randomly draw the winner on Monday, May 2nd at noon (EDT), but if the comment doesn’t have the above question answered, we will re-draw. Good luck!

Sneak peek | New geek chic: QR code pendant & Twitter pendant

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Here’s a quick sneak peek to two upcoming additions to our modern necklace pendant line. We wanted to do a Twitter-inspired jewelry piece that was a little more guy-friendly, since there are plenty of women out there now how are sporting their own Twitter charmer necklaces.

Two months, we introduced the QR code cufflinks and we had always hinted that a QR pendant would be coming too! Expect them to be available for purchase by next week!
